The party is entitled "A New Season-A New Beginning" and is in honor of the new symphony music director, Mei-Ann Chen, who will present a "mini" concert with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra that evening. Cooper Young Festival - Art Invitational/Kickoff Party
Please join us for the annual Art Invitational and Festival Kickoff party hosted by the Cooper Young Business Association. This year, the event will be held Thursday, September 16 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the David Perry Smith Gallery located at 703 New York Street. This event provides area artists with the opportunity to display and sell their works in a gallery setting. The Invitational will feature 15 artists who live and/or work in the Cooper Young area.

David Perry Smith will be the curator of the show. David has a Masters of Art in History of Art from the Ohio State University and has been in the gallery world since graduate school in 1987. There will be a variety of works including sculptures, paintings, photography, glass, craft art and wood pieces. The works displayed will be available for purchase (cash or check only to the individual artist) so if you have been waiting to start that collection now is the time to begin. Some of the artists that will be on-hand to discuss their work are Jeanne Seagle, John McIntre, Elizabeth Alley, Yvonne Bobo, Darla Linerode-Henson, Jeanne Reynolds, Sue Strydom, Mary Long-Postal, Lizi Beard, Janice Raiteri, Tylur French and Jonathan Postal. The original poster art by local artist, Carol Robison, will also be on display and for sale in a silent auction.

There will be complimentary wine/beer bars and live music by Van Duren. Van has been in the music industry since 1975 and has just cut his latest CD titled, Resonance Road. Baptist Foundation to host charity art auction

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 23, 2010 – The Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation will host its annual Art of Caring benefit to support the Baptist Trinity Hospice House and the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at a new venue, The Clark Opera Memphis Center, located at 6745 Wolf River Parkway .

The reception and silent art auction, hosted by David Perry Smith Gallery and curated by Julie Spear, will feature original work specially created for this year’s event. The event will highlight “Memphis Masters” artist Dan Oppenheimer, as well as other local artists.

For the second year, Baptist is partnering with the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art to co-promote Art of Caring and the Brooks fundraising event “Avant-Garde Party 2010.” Avant-Garde Party takes place on Saturday, Aug. 21, and those who attend will receive complimentary tickets to Art of Caring.

Proceeds from Art of Caring support the construction and upkeep of the Baptist Trinity Hospice House, a 24-bed residential hospice scheduled to open this fall on the campus of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville. The Hospice House will be the first of its kind in the area.

Proceeds will also benefit the Baptist Trinity Center for Good Grief, which will move from its current location to the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief, a new facility that will be built adjacent to the hospice house. All services now available at the Baptist Trinity Center for Good Grief will move to the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief. The center provides comprehensive and free bereavement services to families in the Mid-South area and grief camp programs for children, teens and adults.

The event is open to the community, and tickets are $20 per person.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Children's Heart Foundation (childrensheartfoundation.org) in order to fund the most promising pediatric congenital heart defect research.

Grant's Gala aims to raise $20,000 or more to enable The Children's Heart Foundation to continue aggressively funding pediatric congenital heart defect research.

Congenital heart defects are the most common and most deadly group of birth defects and affect nearly approximately 36,000 births a year or one birth every 15 minutes. More than half of all children born with a CHD will require at least one invasive surgery during their lifetime. Sadly, 20 percent of these children will not live to celebrate their first birthday. Even survivors of successful childhood treatment can face life-long risks from congenital heart disease, including heart failure, rhythmic disorders, stroke, renal dysfunction, and neurocognitive dysfunction.

Grant’s Gala was created in 2007 by Holly Gomila Goughnour and Michael Goughnour to honor the memory of their son, Grant Michael Goughnour, who was born on August 5th, 2002 with an undiagnosed congenital heart defect and suddenly passed away seventeen days after his birth.

This year’s dinner will be held at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn on Monday, May 17 at 7 p.m.
Huckabee is currently the host of Fox News Channel’s number one rated weekend hit “HUCKABEE” and is heard three times a day on ABC Radio Network’s “Huckabee Report.” Huckabee is also the author of six books and has been recognized as a national leader by many leading publications and organizations.
“We are thrilled to have such a decorated speaker who exemplifies a passion for our country and understands the importance of ‘doing the most good,’” said Major Mark Woodcock, Area Commander of The Salvation Army. “Huckabee’s career and experiences have been focused on building strong futures for our country’s communities, which fits perfectly with the dinner’s theme “Everyday Heroes: Building a Solid Community.”

Huckabee has received national recognition for his dedication to programs close to his heart. Huckabee, a musician in his own right, has helped further develop music education and was even presented the Music for Life Award in 2007 by the National Association of Music Merchants for his commitment. Prior to being a political leader, Huckabee was a leader within his community and was a pastor. He became the youngest president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention where he guided growing congregations.

Memphis, TN Mid-South Spay & Neuter Services will host the local unveiling of the 2010 limited edition "Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet" stamp on Saturday, May 29th, 1-3 pm at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects located at 1500 Union Avenue. ANF are the architects of the new Memphis Animal Shelter. The stamp set features photographs of real shelter pets and the USPS has anticipated its popularity by printing 300 million stamps.

Barbara Standing, director of development of Mid-South Spay & Neuter hopes the stamp will draw attention to pet overpopulation as well as the need for more adoptions. She says,” This is a banner event for animal lovers and stamp enthusiasts—we’re hoping many of both will come out. Annual Acorn Auction Fundraiser benefiting The Bodine School

The Bodine School will host its annual Acorn Auction fundraiser on Saturday, March 27 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at The University of Memphis!

The Acorn Auction is the Germantown-based school’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds from the event allow The Bodine School to continue providing educational programs for children with dyslexia in first through eighth grades. This year’s theme is “Dreams of the Future,” and the event will feature dinner, live and silent auctions, entertainment by a jazz trio from The University of Memphis and dancing. Canale has represented excellence in orthopaedics, throughout the mid-south and worldwide. As a past president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and as Chair of the UT-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Canale has established Memphis as a worldwide leader in the field of orthopaedics.

“Dr. Canale has been a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon allowing him to touch the lives of thousands of mid-south children affected with orthopaedic diseases and injuries,” said Watson. He has served on the Board of the Arthritis Foundation, and is the Chair-Emeritus of the Annual Arthritis Walk. “Men of this caliber are few and far between, and we are pleased to honor them at our Tribute Dinner this year.”

This year’s Tribute to Excellence Gala will transport guests to Casablanca, and will celebrate the ongoing cooperation between community leaders and the Foundation. The Arthritis Foundation’s mission is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. Alzheimer's Day Services of Memphis (ADS) is hosting its fifth annual Forget-Me-Not Trivia Night on Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Great Hall of the Germantown Athletic Club. Funds from the evening will help ADS continue to provide a quality therapeutic activity program for those with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

Trivia Night consists of teams of six competing to answer trivia questions in ten rounds of ten questions. Teams are encouraged to creatively decorate their 6-ft. table for the table decoration contest and wear costumes, all in the theme of “Classic Television.” Highlights of the evening include “big prizes,” door prizes, a fabulous dessert bar with HUGE pieces of homemade cakes for sale, and the opportunity to purchase “forget it” passes. Coletta’s will sell slices of pizza, wine and beer, but teams have the option to bring their own picnic dinner for the evening. It will be a fast-paced event during which trivia players can exercise their brains and nourish memories, two large components of the ADS mission.

Since January 1983, ADS has provided quality care for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and support, education and relief for the caregivers and families. ADS operates two centers to serve the Mid-South that are both open Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The cost of the daily program is over $75.00 per participant per day, but families are asked to pay $30.00 per day. ADS is a local, non-profit agency which is not affiliated with or supported by any national organization.

The Exchange Club Family Center, a Midtown non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse, today announced its annual “Hands of Hope” Auction Party is set for Saturday, March 27 at Minglewood Hall. The event will kick off at 7 p.m. and will include a silent and live auction, live music provided by the Bo-Keys, dancing, gourmet food stations, cash bar and a coffee-liqueur bar. The Auction Party is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year.

The 18th Works of Heart Valentine Auction on February 13th promises to inspire and entertain everyone who attends. With Joe Birch of Action News 5 as emcee, and remarkable works of art to bid on during the silent auction, Works of Heart is a great party. And it all benefits the Child Advocacy Center.
The heart-themed artwork is created by over 100 accomplished and emerging regional artists. For 18 years, more than 100 “Heartists” are given a plain piece of heart-shaped wood as inspiration to create a work of art. The results are inventive and awe-inspiring. Artists include Dolph Smith, John McIntire, George Hunt, Freida Hamm, David Mah, and John Robinette. Proceeds help provide child-friendly intervention for children who have been sexually abused or severely physically abused.

Celebrity Waiters Night at The Half Shell to Benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Memphis

MEMPHIS (TN) – It's time to kick off the 19th Annual ROCK 103 Ronald McDonald House Radiothon as The Half Shell (7825 Winchester Rd.) hosts Celebrity Waiter’s Night on Tuesday, January 26th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Get ready to be served by some of Memphis’ favorite local celebrities, dig in to the food specials and enjoy the best seafood in town while helping to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Memphis.

The 19th Annual ROCK 103 Ronald McDonald House Radiothon will be held Thursday, February 11th and Friday, February 12th and just like in years before, the entire ROCK 103 crew, including John “Bad Dog” McCormack, Ric Chetter and Tim Spencer will join in on the 28 hour broadcast and help raise funds and awareness for “The House That Love Built”. As Radiothon enters its 19th year, more than $6.2 million has been raised for Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.

The Half Shell will be packed with your favorite Memphis celebrities and ROCK 103 will be on hand for a very special live broadcast from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Bad Dog, Ric and Tim, so come by and hang out with the ROCK 103 crew for Bad Dog’s first public appearance since his cancer diagnosis. And don’t forget, the more you tip the more you help as ALL of the Celebrity Waiters’ tips benefit the 19th Annual ROCK 103 Ronald McDonald House Radiothon.
